Perched on the northern coast of Crete, located just near ancient city of Heraklion, Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport has long served as the sun-drenched gateway to the Mediterranean's largest Greek island. Named in honour of Crete's most celebrated literary, the airport traces it's origins to the early post-war era, growing from a modest military airfield into the one of Greece's busiest international airports - handling millions of sun seekers, historians and island hoppers each season. Its compact but characterful terminal reflects the pragmatism of a workhorse airport that punches well above it's weight, flanked by the glittering Aegean to the north and the rugged Cretan highlands to the south.
Particular attention has been paid to custom accurate terraforming. From the distinctive coastal runway threshold sitting metres from the sea, to the surrounding urban sprawl of Heraklion and the authentic apron geometry used by a wide mix of European carriers.
